Post Secondary Award

Applicants are encouraged to read the eligibility information noted here and ensure they meet or exceed the criteria before making application. Upon meeting the eligibility criteria, complete the appropriate application form, and submit it and all requested supplementary information, by March 1 or September 1.

The Sport Fund Allocation Committee reviews applications semi-annually. The deadline for submitting applications will be strictly adhered to. All applicants will receive notification of receipt of application, and selections will be completed by April 15 and October 15 of the award year.  All applicants will be notified in writing within 15 days of the selection committe's decisions. All selections and allocations will be final. The committee retains the right to alter allocations where commitments have not been met.

Am I Eligible?
The Sport Fund Allocation Committee reviews and publishes eligibility criteria for each of the award categories. Potential applicants should ensure they meet or exceed the noted eligibility criteria before submitting an application for financial assistance:

POST SECONDARY AWARD RECIPIENTS must:

  • Be athletes,
  • Be normally a Nova Scotia resident,
  • Be affiliated with a community-based sport program,
  • Be competing for a Nova Scotia team or club in competition (National, Regional and/or Provincial Championships),
  • Have their application endorsed by the President of their Provincial Sport Organization (using the forms provided),such PSO to be in good standing with Sport Nova Scotia,
  • Have their application endorsed by their personal coach (using the forms provided),
  • Be requesting funding which will fulfill a need not already supported by existing programs (e.g., Sport Canada's AAP, Office of Health Promotion - Sport & Recreation Division's Elite Athlete Assistance; NSO, National Team support; PSO funding; Canadian Sport Centre Atlantic; Canada Games Management Group's Technical Standards Implementation Program). Carded athletes are not eligible for assistance through the Sport Fund.
  • Be in good standing at an educational/vocational institution or a graduate returning to post-secondary studies.

How Do I Apply?
Potential applicants should

  • check the eligibility criteria for the category in which you wish to apply
  • choose the appropriate application
  • identify a project/initiative for which you are requesting financial assistance
  • complete all of the questions asked in the application
  • acquire the endorsements of your Provincial Sport Organization (and personal coach where necessary)
  • attach all of the references and supplementary information requested
  • submit complete applications before the deadline to:

When Can I Apply?
The Sport Fund accepts applications for financial assistance twice per year, with submission deadlines of March 1 and September 1, respectively. Only complete applications will be considered. Ensure that all supplementary information (e.g., budget support documentation, references, endorsements, signatures, etc.) is included with your submission.
