HALIFAX, NS (December 20, 2016) – Jackson Carroll of Halifax has been named November’s Sport Chek Individual Male Athlete of the Month. The 19-year-old secured his third straight international podium finish since September after winning bronze in the Senior Male <63 kg category at the XXIIth International Taekwondo Tournament of Paris Ile de France (French Open). Carroll trains at HP Atlantic Taekwondo Centre and is coached by Kathy Pyke.
Team Thompson of the Dartmouth Curling Club has been named November’s Sport Chek Team of the Month. Comprising of Alex MacNeil, Travis Colter, Colten Steel and Stuart Thompson, the team recently won the Challenge Casino de Charlevoix Cash Spiel in Clermont, Quebec. The event included 21 teams from across the county and the victory marked the team’s biggest win to date.
The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
