January’s Cleve’s Source for Sports

Athlete of the Month winners announced

HALIFAX, NS (February 14th, 2018)Cassidy Klein of Coldbrook has been named the Cleve’s Source for Sports Female Individual Athlete of the Month. The 19-year-old weightlifter recently competed at the Canadian Junior Weightlifting Championships in Halifax where she placed third in the 75kg category. Klein lifted a combined total of 142 kg in two events to secure her bronze medal, setting personal bests in the snatch, clean and jerk, and overall total.

Also competing at the Canadian Junior Weightlifting Championships was the Cleve’s Source for Sports Male Individual Athlete of the Month, 19-year-old Jevan McNutt of Truro. McNutt clinched a silver medal in the 94kg category, tying his own Nova Scotia junior and senior records in the snatch with a lift of 115kg.

Drake Batherson of New Minas has been named the Cleve’s Source for Sports Male Team Athlete of the Month. Batherson, 19, had an all-star performance for Team Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championships in Buffalo, NY where the team won gold. In addition to leading the tournament with seven goals, he was also named one of the team’s three best players by the Hockey Canada coaching staff.

Team Jones of the Halifax Curling Club has been named the Cleve’s Source for Sports Team of the Month. Comprising of Kaitlyn Jones, Kristin Clarke, Karlee Burgess and Lindsey Burgess, the team recently won gold at the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Shawinigan, Quebec. Team Jones will represent Canada at the 2018 World Junior Curling Championships in Aberdeen, Scotland next month.

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
