News Release January 13, 2020 - Halifax, NS - Cleve’s Source for Sports January Athletes of the Month

Marion Synishin is the Junior Female Athlete of the Month for January. The 15-year-old swimmer competed at the 2019 Ontario Junior International where she achieved personal bests in all of her events. She placed 10th in 50m breaststroke, 22nd in 100m breaststroke, 23rd in 200m breaststroke, 42nd in 400m free and 76th 100m free. The swim meet took place from December 13-15 in Toronto, and hosted approximately 400 swimmers.

Liam Ferguson is the Junior Male Athlete of the Month for January. The 16-year -old swimmer accomplished personal bests in all of the events he competed in at the 2019 Ontario Junior International. Ferguson placed 13th in 50m backstroke, 14th in 100m backstroke, 20th in 50m butterfly, 27th in 200m backstroke, and 33rd in 100m butterfly.

• The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards.
• A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Junior Male Athlete, Junior Female Athlete, Senior Male Athlete, Senior Female Athlete, and Team.
