Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month for March announced

(Halifax, March 12, 2019)- Shane Sommers is the Male Individual Athlete of the Month for March. The 14-year-old skier represented Nova Scotia at Canada Games where he took home a gold medal in ski cross. Along with topping the podium, Sommers also placed 13th overall in slalom and 16th overall in super- G. The competition hosted 136 competitors from across the county.

Brenda MacDonald is the Female Individual Athlete of the Month for March. The 20-year-old took home a silver medal in the para giant slalom event at Canada Games in Red Deer. The Martock Ski Race Club member was the only para athlete on the Nova Scotian ski team and plans to continue racing at the university and international level.

The Nova Scotia Canada Games Gymnastics Team are the Team Athletes of the Month for March. Christopher Bearne, Matthew Brown, Andrew Gallant, Vincent d’Entremont, Landon Duquette, and Alex Watters combined performances in rings, high bar, floor, pommels, parallel bars, vault won them bronze in Red Deer; Nova Scotia’s first medal of the games. (Halifax, February 13, 2019)- Carrington Carroll is the Female Individual Athlete of the Month for February. The 15-year-old from Purcell’s Cove recently competed at the Canadian taekwondo national championships in Quebec where she won her eighth national championship title in the female under 49 kg junior weight division. Carroll’s performance earned her a spot on the Canadian junior national team and qualified her for the 2019 Pan American Taekwondo Championship in Peru. READ MORE

Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month for December announced

(Halifax, January 17, 2019)- Trysten Deveau is the Female Individual Athlete of the Month for December. The 21-year-old karate athlete from Church Point recently competed at the 2018 North American Cup where she won bronze in the Individual Female Kumite -55kg. The competition took place at the start of December in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Deveau’s success at this event qualified her for the 2019 Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru.  READ MORE
