Jeff LeDrew (left), Sport Nova Scotia's Director of Marketing, accepts a cheque for $3092.50 from Vanessa Sanford (middle), Boston Pizza employee, and Rick VanPoelgeest (right), Boston Pizza Franchisee.  A portion of the funds were donated directly from Boston Pizza employees during the opening of the Dartmouth Crossing location and the re-opening of the Portland St. location.

Michael Maddalena, President of Soccer Nova Scotia, presents a cheque to Jeff LeDrew, Sport Nova Scotia's Director of Marketing.  Soccer NS donated $13,501.50 to KidSport™ in 2011.  Soccer NS will provide an annual contribution of $0.50 per registered member.  Thanks to the Board, Staff and Members of Soccer NS for their great support.

Goodlife Fitness Clubs host and annual fundraising campaign for the Goodlife Kids Foundation (GLKF) in clubs across Canada.  GLKF recognizes those clubs raising the most money with a grant to a program in their community that fulfills the mission of GLKF.  This year, the Halifax Clayton Plaza Goodlife Fitness Club was the Atlantic Canada top fundraiser for this annual campaign.  They decide that their grant should support KidSport Halifax Regional Municipality in the amount of $5000.

Bruce Bowen, Halifax Running Room Manager, presents a cheque to David Wagg, KidSport™ Coordinator.  The funds donated to KidSport™ were proceeds from the 2011 Hypothermic Half Marathon, a race held each February in Halifax.  The 2011 race raised over $1200 in support of KidSport™.

Jason Helphard, Store Manager for Sobeys Tantallon, presents a cheque for $10,000 to Jeff LeDrew, Sport Nova Scotia's Director of Marketing.  The funds were donated to KidSport in the four Atlantic Provinces from Sobeys and Kraft Canada.

Comfort Inn employees across Nova Scotia have increased their support of the KidSport program in 2011.  This year's casual day campaign raised $3,015.  Employees were permitted to dress casually on Fridays and were also given t-shirts to wear while working their shifts to show their guests how they are supporting KidSport.  Joanne Gibson, Regional Director of Sales, Atlantic Canada presents the cheque to Jeff LeDrew, Sport Nova Scotia’s Director of Marketing. 

Janet Hazelton, President of the Nova Scotia Nurses Union, presents a cheque to Jeff LeDrew, Sport Nova Scotia's Director of Marketing. The funds were raised as proceeds of an auction held in conjunction with the Nurses Union AGM.

Krista Hamilton from Boston Pizza presents a cheque to Kelly Kolke, Chair of Sport Nova Scotia's Board of Directors.  The 2011 Boston Pizza Balloon Bust raised $3,700 at the Ricoh Sport Awards with all proceeds going to support Sport Nova Scotia's KidSport™ program.

On April 30th, Suzie Ketene embarked on a 1,150km, nine-day mountain bike race called the Trans Portugal Garmin: http://www.trans-portugal.com/indexIng.htm which started in the northeast (Braganca) and finished in the southwest (Sagres). The terrain included forest tracks, dirt roads, and steep cliff-top single track. She was one of 65+ participants from around the world, one of five Canadians, and one of six women. Suzie successfully climbed 24,500 vertical metres in nine days!

Suzie's original goal was to raise $1 for every kilometer of the race.  We are ecstatic to announce that Suzie raised $5 per kilometer totalling almost $6,000.  Suzie's hard work and perseverance will provide more Nova Scotian children with sport opportunities.

Chad Holt, Manager Dartmouth Crossing Sport Chek, presents a cheque to David Wagg, KidSport Coordinator in the amount of $1200.  Sport Chek's Power of Sport 4 Kids program matched funds from a BBQ held outside their store in support of KidSport.

Employees from home, car and business insurer RSA Canada present a cheque to KidSport™ Nova Scotia for $3,300. The funds were raised as part of RSA’s 300th birthday celebration where employees volunteered, fundraised and donated items to various local charities. In Halifax and Dartmouth, employees raised over $11,000, volunteered 1,216 hours and donated over 27,000 items during the 11-week campaign. Streamline Construction owners Tyler Whitehead, Sean Morton and Dave Bryant (pictured above) raised funds for KidSport by hosting a BBQ at Sport Chek's Dartmouth Crossing location.  With the help of a few close friends including Olympian Sarah Conrad, Tyler and Sean were able to raise more than $500 for KidSport.

David Wagg, KidSport Coordinator accepts $500 from Cheryl Horton, Owner and the staff of Brady's Home Building Center in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.  Brady's raised funds for the KidSport program by hosting a series of BBQ's during the summer months.

The Prospect Bulls Bantam Team presents a cheque for $100 to Dave Wagg, KidSport Coordinator.  The funds were the proceeds of a Lucky Square draw held during the 2010 BNS Bantam Girls Provincials. hosted by the Prospect Bulls.

Dartmouth Minor Football held a 'copper football challenge' - Each minor football association in Nova Scotia was provided with a large Canadian Springs water jug, at the Jamboree. The objective was to fill these jugs with as many pennies - or whatever coins or paper money - as possible. At the end of the Jamboree the President of Football Nova Scotia, Richard MacLean judged the jugs and the winner, with a jug over ¾ full, was Cape Breton Minor Football!  $519.04 was donated to KidSport from the Nova Scotia Minor Football program over the Labour Day weekend!

Candace Reeves, Boston Pizza Community Relations Coordinator, presents a cheque to Jim Boudreau, Chair of Sport Nova Scotia's Board of Directors.  The 2010 Boston Pizza Balloon Bust raised $4,180 at the Ricoh Sport Awards with all proceeds going to support Sport Nova Scotia's KidSport™ program.

Brad Gouthro, Marketing Specialist for Bluewave Energy, presents a cheque for $10,000 to Jeff LeDrew, Sport Nova Scotia's Director of Marketing.  The funds will be used to support KidSport™ equipment applications throughout Nova Scotia.

Recently the 2009-10 Dalhousie Varsity Council Co-Presidents Chris Haughn and Katya Sodamin made the council's annual donation to Dave Wagg, KidSport™ Coordinator.  The $755.50 donation was raised at two events the council held this past school year.  The varsity council is comprised of two members from each varsity team at Dalhousie and they meet bi-weekly to discuss athletics issues and to plan events. Money raised at council events is donated to local charities.

On April 1st, Soccer Nova Scotia announced they are pledging 50 cents per player, to a maximum of $15,000 annually, to the KidSport™ program. KidSport™ helps children overcome the financial barriers limiting (or preventing) their participation in organized sport. Click here to read more about.

Suzie says: "I have been fortunate enough to have had a life filled with organized team and individual sports, and I could not imagine a child’s life without such critical team-building, and healthy activity. Thus, this fundraising drive".

Suzie's MTB accomplishments include provincial titles in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec between 1995-2000 and a National title in 1998. Suzie has two goals; to raise $1,150, one dollar for every kilometer of the race, and to complete the race!
