The Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness is responsible for responding to emerging public health threats, preventing chronic disease and injury, and promoting health among Nova Scotians. Its role spans all aspects of public health, physical activity, sport and recreation, and addiction services. By bringing together experts in promotion, prevention and protection, Nova Scotia Health and Wellness is taking the next step forward in creating a healthier and safer Nova Scotia. As a major funding partner of Sport Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Health and Wellness provides direct funding for programs as well as Sport Nova Scotia’s member Provincial Sport Organizations.

 Equipment Partner

The Power of Sport for Kids program, established and facilitated by The Forzani Group Ltd., is a nationwide program created to support disadvantaged children who would benefit from the infusion of sports and activity in their young lives. In-store fundraising initiatives provide the funds for sports equipment and accessories that will give these kids the chance to play. Over $2 million has been raised over the past two years through Sport Chek, Sport Mart, Hockey Expert and Athlete’s World stores across the country. Thanks to the support of employees, customers and vendors, the Power of Sport for Kids has contributed thousands of units of sports equipment to recipient organizations since its inception in 2005. Sport Check and the Power of Sport Program joined forces with Sport Nova Scotia in 2011 as KidSport’s Official Equipment Partner.

	Canadian Tire Jumpstart® is a community-based charitable program that helps kids aged 4-18 participate in organized sports and recreation such as hockey, dance, soccer and swimming, so they can develop important life skills, self esteem and confidence. To date, there are 279 Canadian Tire Jumpstart® chapters in communities across the country. Since its launch in February 2005, Canadian Tire Jumpstart® has helped give more than 159,573 kids in financial need the chance to play.
