Sport Nova Scotia announces IKON Sport Award Finalists
HALIFAX, NS (Tuesday, June 2, 2009) –Today, Sport Nova Scotia announced the names of the finalists for the 13th annual IKON Sport Awards.
The IKON Sport Awards recognize the achievements of Nova Scotia’s elite athletes, teams, coaches, officials and volunteers in amateur sport over the past year. At the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame, the finalists were announced in eight categories: IKON Team of the Year, IKON Female and Male Individual Athletes of the Year, IKON Female and Male Team Athlete of the Year, IKON Coach of the Year, IKON Official of the Year and IKON Corporate Sponsor of the Year.
“We have an exceptional group of finalists this year,” said Jamie Ferguson, CEO, Sport Nova Scotia. “Each of these nominees has come through a rigorous selection process and they truly represent the best in their respective categories. Their achievements are the result of years of commitment and dedication and they serve as tremendous examples not just to young sport participants but also to people in all walks of life. Nova Scotians can be very proud of this year’s impressive group.”
The finalists were chosen from over 200 nominations that were submitted by Provincial Sport Organizations. Finalists were selected based on their best performance of the season, as well as the nominee’s record over their athletic career and any other pertinent circumstances such as community involvement, obstacles they faced, the level of competition.
This year’s nominees will be recognized at an awards ceremony on June 6, 2009, at the World Trade and Convention Centre.

Winners for the IKON Fair Play, IKON Sport Makes a Difference, IKON Association of the Year and Chair Award will be announced on June 6th. Sport Nova Scotia and IKON Office Solutions will also recognize the Volunteer of the Year from each of the Provincial Sport Organizations.
