Sport Nova Scotia hands out IKON Sport Awards
HALIFAX, NS (Saturday, June 6, 2009) – Over 550 members of the Nova Scotia sport community gathered at the World Trade and Convention Centre to see Sport Nova Scotia present the 13th annual IKON Sport Awards. The prestigious sport recognition event celebrated the achievements of more than 200 nominated athletes, coaches, officials, sponsors and volunteers.
“Acknowledging these individuals’ accomplishments encourages them to continue their commitment to their sport, and hearing their inspirational stories encourages all Nova Scotians to take part in sport,” says Jamie Ferguson, CEO, Sport Nova Scotia. “Everyone here has made significant personal sacrifice to reach the level of excellence they have and their contributions have helped enhance the sport system in this province. Their accomplishments are an important part of ensuring that the sport community in Nova Scotia is dynamic and exciting.”
Ferguson adds, “For the past 13 years, IKON Office Solutions has worked with us so that we can continue to recognize our athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers. Tonight’s celebration would not be possible without IKON. With IKON’s support, we have been able to recognize more than 1,400 individuals from across Nova Scotia over the past 13 years.”

The winners in all categories, accept the Sport Nova Scotia Chair Award, were chosen from over 200 nominations that were submitted by Provincial Sport Organizations. Winners were selected based on their best performance of the season, as well as the nominee’s record over their athletic career and any other pertinent circumstances such as community involvement, obstacles they faced, the level of competition.
