Nova Scotian team athletes shine
Cleve’s Source for Sports / New Balance Athletes of the Month for September
HALIFAX, NS (Tuesday, October 13, 2009) – Nova Scotian team athletes gave outstanding performances during the month of September.
Chris Head, 23, of Halifax was named Cleve’s Source for Sports / New Balance Male Team Athlete of the Month after helping his baseball team, Dartmouth Moosehead Senior Dry, win the Provincial title at the Men’s Senior Playoffs in Dartmouth this month. Head batted a .457 in the playoffs and scored 15 runs, three of which were home runs. Last year, Chris was named Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League’s most valuable player and was Baseball Nova Scotia’s Male Team Athlete of the Year for 2008-09.
Daniel Baker and Adam Taylor of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, were named Cleve’s Source for Sports / New Balance Team of the Month. Together the pair won the Cork Fall Regatta, in Kingston Ontario. The team beat out 11 other boats from three different provinces and is one step closer to qualifying as the Canadian boat at the 2010 World Youth Sailing Championships.
The Cleve’s Source for Sports / New Balance Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
