Terms and Conditions
By entering this competition, you have read, agree with and accept the terms and conditions below. You agree that your entry and the personal information collected from you in connection with this competition will be held by Sport Nova Scotia (“The Promoter”). The Promoter's use of your personal information is subject to the Promoter’s Privacy Policy, which is available at www.sportnovascotia.ca.
Sport Nova Scotia is excited to host a video contest with the chance at winning $1,000.
Who can enter?
Anyone who is a resident of Nova Scotia.
What’s the challenge?
Create and submit a family-friendly video with the answer to our question, “How has sport made a difference in your life?”
What’s in it for you?
Apart from letting your creativity run riot and having your work seen by people online, if your video wins the public vote, you will win $1,000 cash. We might even fall in love with your video; and if we do, we reserve the right to broadcast it on TV or radio at a later date.
You may also be invited to present the Sport Makes a Difference Award at the Ricoh Sport Awards, June 4th in Halifax, NS.
How do we enter?
You’ll first need to register on our site. By doing so you agree to these rules on behalf of everyone involved in your video (if there are more people than just you). When you register you’ll need to provide an email address so that we can contact you if there’s a problem with your video, or if you end up winning.
After you’ve registered, you can upload your video to YouTube. Then cut and paste the URL to our site. A member of Sport Nova Scotia will verify your video within 24 hours, at which time you will receive an e-mail confirming that your video is live. At that point you can start soliciting votes.
When can we enter?
You can enter at any time during the contest’s period (see ‘Contest Timeline’ below). Public voting is open at all times that entries are open and for a further two weeks after entries are closed.
Contest Timeline
March 15, 2011 – Video Contest begins / Entries are open
May 2, 2011 at midnight (AST) – Entries are closed / Voting continues
May 16, 2011 at midnight (AST) – Voting ends
May 18, 2011 – Winner is announced
All files must have COMPLETELY UPLOADED within the above entry periods. Partially uploaded videos will not be accepted. If your video has not been fully uploaded by the entry closing time it will not be accepted. Make sure you leave enough time to complete the upload.
There will be a time delay from videos being uploaded to them appearing on the website, because each video needs to be checked against the rules below by our team. You’ll receive an email letting you know if your video has been accepted or not.
How many times can we enter?
As a contender, you may enter as many videos as you like.
How many times can people vote for my video?
Everyone can rate your video once. We will consider users who set multiple accounts and user names to be vote rigging and these videos will be disqualified from the competition.
How many people can I have in my video?
The number of people that feature in your video is up to you. You can include as many people in the video as you like, but you should make it clear to them that participation in the video will not mean that they will share the prize with you if you win. It is your responsibility to make this clear to everyone taking part in the video and to get their written permission before the video is submitted. It is also your responsibility to make all participants aware that the video or parts/components of it might be broadcast on TV, Print, Radio and on the internet.
How do I win?
To win, you need as many votes as possible at the highest rating. The best way to get votes is to share your video with as many people as possible. Voting consists of giving a video a star rating out of 5, which is then converted into a ranking. The winner will be the video with the highest rank.
Specifically, the point rating per video is combined with the total site number of voters and average rating to obtain a rank according to a Bayesian rating system. We calculate a certain videos' position in the rank by sorting all the entries with the following calculation:
(Total_vote_points + your total_vote_points_) / (total_times_voted + your total votes)
where:
‘total_vote_points’ = the sum of all the points voted for all videos
‘your total_vote_points_= the sum of all the points voted for your specific video ‘total_times_voted’ = the total number of times anyone voted any video
‘your total votes_ = the total number of times someone voted for your specific video
The Bayesian system is based on the idea that a video that has more people voting for it has a more accurate rating than one that has a few votes. So when you first enter a video in the competition it will immediately be ranked with the average of all videos but the more positive ratings you receive the more your video will rise in the rankings.
The more friends you can get to vote favourably for your video the better your chances. If you get unfavourably voted compared to others, your chances of winning will decrease.
The Promoter reserves the right of final judgment over who wins the contest. We will use this right if, for example, we determine that foul play or vote rigging has somehow taken place. In the event of a tie, we will determine who the winner is. The Promoter's decision is final and binding, and no correspondence will be entered into.
How will I know if I’ve won?
The Promoter will contact the user who uploaded the winning video via e-mail. If the winner cannot be contacted within [7] calendar days of first notification attempt, if prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, if winner rejects his/her prize or in the event of noncompliance with these Promotion Official Rules, such prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected from all remaining eligible entries. Upon prize forfeiture, no compensation will be given.
THE PROMOTER’S DECISIONS ARE FINAL ON ALL MATTERS.
