Biography: As a sports journalist, editor, writer, and columnist. Alex Nickerson served his community and province for more than 50 years. He also found time to promote and organize amateur sport.

His first major assignment was to cover the well-known Halifax Wolverines in 1934-35 during their quest for the Allan Cup. Later, his paper assigned him the task of organizing the Modified Marathon 10-Mile championship and other events such as the Maritime Junior Track & Field Championships and the Maritime Amateur Boxing Championships.

He was a member of the World Series Press Corps for over 40 years and was named editor of The Mail-Star in 1954. He was also a founding member of the original Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.

Facts: • He is a founding member of the Sports Hall of Fame
• Alex excelled at hockey, football and basketball.
• In 1954 he was named editor of "The Mail-Star".
