Message from BNS President
Hello Everyone and Welcome to the
2011-12 Season of Badminton! Summer has quickly come and
gone and I hope you were all able to enjoy some of the few
warm days we had! The Canada Games already feel like a
distant memory and I would like to thank everyone who helped
out in making them so successful. The feedback I received
was incredibly positive and the next host of the Games have
already contacted me for input on how to put on such a great
competition.
This season we have some exciting changes happening on and
off the court. Our Board of Directors has grown and I would
like to welcome the following new members:
Vice President – Kerry Lynch
Junior Tournament & Player Development Director – Spencer
Armsworthy
Fundraiser Director/Special Events Coordinator – Greg Euloth
Coaching & Officiating – Mark Briscombe
Director at Large for South Western – Rick Murphy
Directors at Large for Valley – Mike & Lynn Scott
Director at Large for HRM – Áine Humble
As many of you may have already heard, our association has
changed its name this year. We have eliminated the
“Association” and will now be known simply as “Badminton
Nova Scotia”. Kerry Lynch has been very gracious to donate a
lot of his time in creating a new look for our sport which
will be made evident by our new logo and new website, which
is currently under construction. Many thanks to Kerry for
all of the time and effort you’ve put into creating these
for us!
The cost of an individual membership has increased to $30
this year. However, this increased cost now includes a BNS
t-shirt with our new logo. Sample shirts will be available
at the first few tournaments (and the office) so everyone has a chance to try
on and select the right size. We have also changed our major
sponsor this year and will now be officially affiliated with
Yonex.
The badminton community was saddened this summer to learn of
the passing of 2 of our members and our condolences go out
to their family and friends. In other news three of our
Board members have each welcomed new babies to their
families. Congratulations to Kerry Lynch, Mark Barry and
Mark Briscombe. We look forward to seeing your little ones
on the court in the years to come! I would also like to take
this opportunity to congratulate Áine Humble,
Katarina Allen
and Ken Hudson
who are officially certified Regional Umpires!
Stay tuned for upcoming Fun Days and tournaments and check
out our website for any information you might require.
